Job Description

Job Title: Coating Craftsman

Job Summary:

Marquis Construction Services is seeking a skilled Coating Craftsman to join our team. As a Coating Craftsman, you will be responsible for performing blasting and coating duties as required per the job specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Safety Protocols: Adhere to all OSHA, site-specific, and Marquis Construction Services requirements for the blasting and painting.
  • Environmental Compliance: Abide by all environmental (EPA) standards.
  • Job Site Safety: Inspect job site for safety hazards.
  • Safety Pre-Job Audits: Participate in safety pre-job audits (JSA's) with the painting crew to ensure all safety hazards have been identified.
  • Scaffolding Inspection: Conduct daily visual inspections of scaffolding to ensure structural stability.
  • Surface Preparation: Prepare and paint a variety of surfaces, including ferrous and non-ferrous metals, aluminum, and concrete, to Marquis and customer specifications.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Work from non-complex blueprints, specifications, work sheets, dimensions, color codes, mixing charts, tables, verbal, and written instructions.
  • Paint Mixing: Prepare, match colors, and mix standards and other primers, paints, and coatings to proper consistency and viscosity, using thinners, solvents, additives, and agitators as required.
  • Surface Masking: Prepare and clean items and surfaces to be finished. Mask, plug, block finished, machined, or specified surfaces not to be coated.
  • Coating Application: Uniformly apply wet primers, paints, and wet or dry coatings to parts and components and other items, using care to avoid over-spraying/coating and to obtain a smooth, covered, and even surface free from runs and thin spots.
  • Quality Control: Visually and mechanically check finished items for pinholes, runs, bare spots, proper coverage. Refinish and touch up as required.
  • Sample Preparation: Prepare and coat sample pieces.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Ensure the proper movement of finished goods to inspection or shipping areas, cleaning and maintenance of spray application equipment, booths, filters, protective clothing, and equipment according to established practices.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with crew members and supervision.
  • Cleanup: Cleanup work area, supplies, materials, and equipment.

  • High Places: Working in high precarious places.
  • Weather Conditions: Exposed to all types of weather conditions - hot/humid/cold/wet.
  • Chemicals: Working around different types of chemicals.
  • Noise: Working in high noise areas.
  • Shop Elements: May be exposed to any number of adverse shop elements, odors to the extent of being disagreeable.

  • Standing: Stand for long periods of time.
  • Hand and Arm Use: Ability to feel and reach with hands and arms.

  • Lifting: The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 pounds.
  • Vision: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Degree or equivalent.
  • PPE: Required to wear PPE on the job site at all times.
  • Mathematics: Use of shop mathematics together with the use of specifications, blueprints, tables, color charts, adjustable measuring instruments.
  • Background Check: Ability to pass Hair Follicle Testing.
  • Background: Acceptable Background.
  • Experience: 2 to 3 years of coating experience preferred in a chemical plant environment. (Does not apply to Helper positions).
  • Overtime: Ability to work overtime.
  • Training: Successful candidates could be required to complete lead abatement training and regularly scheduled lead testing.
