Job Summary

In this role, you will assist in integrating industrial hygiene requirements into project planning, design, construction, and operations, and with risk assessment, plan preparation, and Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H) program execution.

Your work will help evaluate program performance, identify the need for corrective actions to keep employees safe, and confirm compliance with project requirements.

Under management supervision, the Industrial Hygienist is responsible for implementing and administering project industrial hygiene programs affecting employee, public safety and occupational health.

Serves as a resource for line management to administer a proactive prevention program for occupational accidents and illnesses; under general supervision performs technical work in a wide range of industrial hygiene disciplines to achieve compliance with ES&H standards along with federal and state regulatory requirements; exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of industrial hygiene; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of industrial hygiene programs, systems and procedures; monitors and prevents hazards and diseases that could be found in the work area; investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints concerning hazards in the workplace; recommends improvements in processes, design, procedures and operating equipment to minimize hazards; conducts employee training, emergency preparedness and assures the quality of programs; provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice; may provide guidance for a team of ES&H specialists and/or support personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists execution of the Industrial Hygiene (IH) component of an ESH Program inclusive of technical and administrative aspects.
  • Assists development and implementation of Safety and Health Management Plan, associated IH plans and procedures, and training program.
  • Provides input to Engineering, Construction, Procurement, Subcontracts, Commissioning, and other groups to assure that IH requirements are integrated within project planning and execution.
  • Interprets IH requirements and provides guidance on risk assessment and ESH program execution.
  • Research issues and regulatory requirements and prepares documentation and reports.
  • Provides support and guidance for IH studies, risk assessments, and other safety and health reviews.
  • Participates in emergency response and incident investigation and resolution.
  • Participates in meetings with customers, team members, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Conducts ESH inspections and IH monitoring and sampling to identify hazards and risks, evaluate controls and corrective actions, and assess compliance with contract, regulatory, project, and Bechtel requirements.
  • Assists development of ESH communications and training materials using diverse methods and media and gives training.
  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work in order to protect self, others, and the environment.
Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to industrial hygiene and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

Experience in a nuclear, heavy construction, chemical processing or petroleum refining environment. ABIH Certification (CIH) Preferred

Industrial Hygienists II are expected to pursue and/or complete a professional certification, such as an ABIH Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
