Position Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) 2 plays a crucial role in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for a diverse patient population within the emergency department. This role encompasses care for patients with varying complexities and multi-system issues, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment: Utilize knowledge of growth and development principles to assess patient data and interpret information necessary to identify age-specific needs.
  • Caring Relationships: Foster caring relationships with patients, families, and significant others while collaborating effectively with the healthcare team.
  • Clinical Standards: Adhere to specialty and organizational standards, policies, procedures, and protocols, reporting to the Director and/or Nurse Manager.
  • Supervision: May oversee Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel as needed.
  • Clinical Judgment: Apply organized thinking principles to make informed clinical decisions and judgments.
  • Data Gathering: Collect data through comprehensive history taking and physical assessments to plan and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Care Planning: Develop, evaluate, and adjust patient care plans in response to evolving patient needs.
  • Documentation: Accurately document care provided and monitor patient progress towards desired outcomes.
  • Delegation: Direct and supervise others in performing delegated nursing activities.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their significant others about the care plan and self-management strategies.
  • Discharge Preparation: Prepare patients for post-discharge care, transfers, or procedures/tests.
  • Resource Management: Efficiently manage time and resources to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications as prescribed and provide direct patient care.
  • Team Leadership: Lead the healthcare team in delivering optimal patient care.
  • Preceptorship: Serve as a preceptor for new staff members, guiding their integration into the team.
  • Additional Duties: Perform job-specific requirements and other assigned duties as necessary.
Physical and Work Requirements
  • The role involves physical demands typical of a healthcare environment, including the ability to lift, carry, or push/pull weights regularly.
  • Employees must be capable of performing fine motor tasks, hearing, speaking, and walking frequently.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, sitting, squatting, and standing is required, with occasional climbing and kneeling.
  • Specific vision abilities, including color vision and depth perception, are necessary for this position.
  • Exposure to airborne and bloodborne pathogens, as well as bodily fluids, is a regular aspect of the role.
  • Occasional exposure to various environmental hazards may occur, including electrical hazards and slippery surfaces.
  • The typical noise level in the work environment is moderate.
