Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Hospital Veterinarian to join our team at Petco Total Care hospitals. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will play a critical role in delivering high-quality medical care, leading a collaborative team, and promoting exceptional patient experiences.

About the Role

This challenging and rewarding position involves:

  • Providing comprehensive medical care, including diagnostics, treatment, and surgical procedures;
  • Leading a team to ensure exceptional patient experiences and promote ongoing education and skill enhancement;
  • Maintaining high-quality standards of care and fostering a culture of teamwork and excellence within the practice;
Key Responsibilities

The Hospital Veterinarian will be responsible for:

  • Performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care according to patient signalment, lifestyle, and environment;
  • Utilizing a problem-based approach to develop a complete problem list, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatments based on test results;
  • Documenting patient observations, findings, treatments, and diagnoses in the medical record;
  • Performing routine and complex surgeries, including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, and mass removals;
  • Developing treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and communicating with referral hospitals to ensure continuity of care;
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school;
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state where the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date;
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable;
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date;
  • Experience with anesthesia and routine surgeries, including canine and feline spays, neuters, mass removals, and dentals;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Compassion, sympathy, and ability to maintain a professional attitude during emotional situations;
  • Telephone and computer skills;
  • A team player mindset, willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change;
