Position Overview:

  • Manages switching teams in the positioning and movement of rail cars within a rail yard.
  • Ensures crew performance aligns with safety protocols and operational efficiency.
  • Operates locomotives while interpreting train directives, signals, and regulations.
  • Communicates updates to the yard coordinator and trains new personnel.
  • Plans and oversees the movement of rail cars, collaborating with facility staff.
  • Interprets railroad signals, guidelines, and safety measures.
  • Monitors tracks for any obstructions or defects.
  • Prepares operational reports and maintains locomotive components.
  • Handles railroad machinery with care and adheres to required safety gear.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma is preferred.
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Military background is advantageous.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Reliable, punctual, and possesses dependable transportation.
  • Strong communication and active listening abilities.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and collaborating effectively within a team.

Language Proficiency:

Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in front of groups.

Mathematical Proficiency:

Ability to perform calculations, understand percentages, and interpret graphical data.

Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to apply logical reasoning and problem-solving techniques in standardized scenarios.

Physical Requirements:

Regularly required to stand and walk, with occasional lifting of heavy objects.

Work Environment:

Primarily operates in an outdoor setting, subject to varying weather conditions and exposure to chemicals. Moderate noise levels are typical in the work environment.
