Job Summary

Industrial Trade Services is seeking a skilled Journeyman Welder to join our team. As a key member of our fabrication department, you will be responsible for welding and assembling metal components for various industrial projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Select and prepare materials and equipment according to specifications.
  • Plan and execute welding layouts, assembly, and welding processes, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, and welding techniques.
  • Operate various welding processes, including Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, and Shielded Metal Arc.
  • Lay out, position, and fit components together in various body positions.
  • Bolt, clamp, and weld metal components of products such as piping systems, plate, pipe, and tube or structural shapes.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Connecting welding unit cables to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
  • Obtaining and inserting electrodes into portable holders or threading consumable electrode wire through portable welding guns.
  • Starting power supplies to produce electric current and striking arcs to melt and deposit metal.
  • Guiding electrodes or guns along weld lines, maintaining arc length, speed, and movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Applying filler rods to supply weld metal.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent with previous experience in the field or a related area.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the welding field.
  • Ability to work within precise limits or standards of accuracy and make decisions based on measurable criteria.
  • Basic mathematics skills to solve problems and plan work.
  • Visualizing objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings and comparing differences in size, shape, and form.
Physical Demands

The physical demands of this job include:

  • Talking and hearing.
  • Sitting, using hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • Frequent lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in a fast-paced industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, and other hazards. Respiratory protection may be required. The employee must be able to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
