Nature of Work:

The City of Delaware provides its Automotive Technicians with a varied workload and offers competitive remuneration, comprehensive benefits, OPERS pension, Ohio Deferred Compensation, paid holidays, generous time-off, uniforms, work boot allowance, and a $350 annual tool reimbursement. In addition to excellent benefits and pay, all Technicians follow a Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:00 pm schedule.

Responsibilities:

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Division Supervisor, this role is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and inspection of small gas equipment, light and heavy-duty vehicles, construction machinery, and emergency response vehicles. Technicians may be required to respond to emergency call-outs and work overtime, including nights and weekends, as necessary.

Key Functions:

Technician II:
  1. Conducts all tasks of a Technician I.
  2. Performs inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on major repairs and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
  3. Estimates repair costs and timelines, identifying the most cost-effective methods.
Technician III:
  1. Completes all functions of a Technician I & II.
  2. Handles inspections, diagnostics, and repairs on major repairs and maintenance of City vehicles and equipment.
  3. Determines serviceability and replacement needs for vehicles and equipment.
  4. Schedules and coordinates work across all City departments, prioritizing tasks and identifying necessary equipment and materials.
  5. Implements preventative maintenance procedures and schedules.
Skills Required:

Technician II:
  • Proficient in all areas of a Technician I.
  • Skilled in welding and automotive electronics repairs.
  • Experienced in using automotive scanning equipment and software.
Technician III:
  • Highly skilled in all areas of a Technician I & II.
  • Expertise in equipment hydraulics maintenance and repair.
Knowledge and Abilities:

Technician II:
  • Working knowledge of heavy construction and emergency response equipment.
Technician III:
  • Considerable knowledge in all areas of a Technician I & II.
Physical Requirements:

The primary duties are performed in an automotive shop environment, involving exposure to noise, dust, grease, and hazardous materials. Technicians must possess sufficient physical strength and dexterity to lift heavy objects and operate various automotive tools.

Training and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience indicating possession of the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Candidates must maintain their own toolbox and hand tools and possess a valid State of Ohio Motor Vehicle Commercial Driver's License (class A) with air-brake endorsement or the ability to obtain it within a specified probationary period.
