About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our New Shepard Avionics team at Blue Origin. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and verifying high-performance RF systems for our reusable suborbital rocket system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop RF communication subsystems and components with a strong background in RF principles, specifically in UHF and S-band RF for vehicle and ground station development and link.
  • Plan and define RF systems, including crafting RF link budgets, performing antenna placement planning, and conducting site tests.
  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams, including mechanical, ground, and operations, to partner for the best design implementation solutions.
  • Work with manufacturing engineers to create and approve assembly drawings and partner with production engineering to develop and support sustaining engineering plans and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and own test procedures, as well as plan and execute all phases of testing (development, acceptance, and qualification).
  • Have expertise in grounding and general board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 10+ years of proven experience in RF design of complex aerospace/space hardware.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to our culture of inclusion.
  • Expertise in several of the following areas: RF communication subsystem and/or component design, RF system planning and definition, antenna placement planning, site testing, and EMI/EMC tradeoffs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Physics, or related subject areas.
  • 15+ years proven experience in RF design, development, integration, test, and operation of avionics systems or vehicles.
  • Proven experience specifying and crafting high reliability safety-critical electronics; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards.
  • Background with launch vehicle hardware development, integration, and test.

At Blue Origin, we offer a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $153,636.00-$215,090.40, depending on location.
