Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct patient care under the guidance of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse.
  • Exhibit proficiency in medication knowledge and administration techniques.
  • Administer medications accurately as per the unit dose system.
  • Complete medication administration within the designated timeframe and without errors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all medication administration records on a daily basis.
  • Understand the classifications of medications and educate patients on their purpose and effects.
  • Provide relevant information to patients while refraining from offering medical advice or diagnoses.
  • Utilize appropriate medical terminology in the medication administration process.
  • Follow established procedures for preparing and administering medications, ensuring aseptic techniques are employed.
  • Secure and store all medications in compliance with regulations.
  • Keep the medication cart in view at all times and ensure it is locked when unattended.
  • Document any medication errors and report them to the supervising nurse.
  • Recognize and uphold Residents' Rights concerning medication and treatment decisions, documenting refusals appropriately.
  • Provide personal and nursing care according to individual resident care plans.
  • Respond to resident requests and needs with dignity and respect.
  • Assist residents in preparing for various activities within and outside the facility.
  • Ensure that all care provided is respectful and dignified.
  • Perform basic nursing care tasks as required.
  • Assist with resident mobility and transfers, employing proper techniques and equipment.
  • Create a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, ensuring their needs are met.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of residents' daily activities and care plans.
  • Adhere to established departmental policies, objectives, and safety standards.
  • Participate in ongoing training and educational programs to maintain certification and improve care quality.
  • Engage in additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Completion of medication training from a state-approved program.
  • Current Medication Aide license from the Virginia Board of Nursing; RMA License.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • BLS/CPR certification.
  • COVID-19 vaccination.
