Job Summary

UMC Health System is seeking a highly skilled Data Analyst to join our team. As a Data Analyst, you will play a critical role in analyzing healthcare data to inform business decisions and improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze healthcare data from various sources, including electronic health records, claims data, and patient surveys.
  • Develop and implement data collection methodologies to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Clean, validate, and preprocess data to prepare it for analysis using statistical software and programming languages such as SQL, Python, or R.
  • Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in healthcare data.
  • Create dashboards, reports, and visualizations to communicate key findings and insights to stakeholders, including clinicians, administrators, and executives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, clinical operations, and quality improvement, to address specific business needs and strategic initiatives.
  • Conduct ad hoc analyses and provide analytical support for special projects, research studies, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in healthcare analytics and recommend innovative solutions to enhance data-driven decision-making.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a data analyst, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Strong programming skills in SQL, Python, R, or other relevant languages.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards and regulations, such as HIPAA, HL7, and Meaningful Use.
  • Experience with healthcare databases and data warehousing concepts, including SQL Server, Oracle, and Hadoop.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into non-technical language.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView.
  • Knowledge of predictive modeling techniques and machine learning algorithms.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows and healthcare delivery processes.
Work Environment

Works in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated building. Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is of low risk.

Physical Requirements

Work is of medium demand; walking and sitting most of the time while on duty. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Visual acuity and writing skills necessary for factual documentation. Hours may vary to accommodate the needs of the corporation.
