As a Hospital Leader On Duty, you will play a vital role in setting the tone for technical and customer support within our hospital teams. Your responsibilities will encompass patient care, client education, and team motivation, ensuring a cohesive and motivated team environment.

  • Provide exceptional patient care and customer service, greeting clients and patients, obtaining patient histories, and performing patient restraint, as needed.
  • Assist doctors with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia, under the supervision of veterinarians and credentialed Veterinary Technicians.
  • Monitor and answer telephone lines, route calls appropriately, schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results to doctors and clients, and maintain and update client/patient records.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist doctors and/or veterinary technicians in anesthetizing patients, and monitor patients during recovery.
  • Perform in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous fluid therapy.
  • Keep patients clean, watered, and fed, safely walk canine patients when necessary for elimination, and maintain the hospital environment's neatness and cleanliness.
  • Order inventory, schedule, and monitor wait times, making accommodations as necessary during peak/busy times or when medical staff is dealing with an emergency situation.
  • Enforce all policies of Petco and Vetco Total Care, oversee hospital operations, and supervise paraprofessional staff.


What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess at least 1 year of previous experience working in a veterinary practice, leadership capabilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a passion for delivering compassionate and sympathetic care. They should also have telephone and computer skills, be a team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.

Work Environment

The majority of job duties are conducted in the Veterinary Hospital. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary), and standing for long periods. A large amount of this partner's time will be spent in direct contact with clients and their pets.
