Job Summary:

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care by performing ultrasound examinations and assisting healthcare providers in conducting invasive procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the ultrasound procedure, and answer questions to ensure a comfortable and informed experience.
  • Equipment Operation: Select and operate ultrasound machines and probes to obtain diagnostic images, applying gel as needed.
  • Image Review and Analysis: Process and review images to confirm they meet radiologist requirements, identifying abnormal conditions for further review.
  • Procedure Assistance: Use ultrasound equipment to assist healthcare providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain ultrasound equipment, examination rooms, and related supplies, ensuring a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and submit reports detailing the number and type of examinations conducted, as well as maintaining patient information files.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as directed by management, ensuring seamless departmental operations.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum one year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
  • Education: Completion of an ARDMS-accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology, as well as a high school diploma or GED.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire, or Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire, and Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand, push, pull, and lift patients, as well as perform manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination tasks.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with patients and colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adjust routine to accommodate patient or department needs without affecting departmental flow.
  • Cognitive Abilities: Concentration on fine detail with constant interruption and ability to attend to tasks for 20 to 45 minutes at a time.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in the use of applicable computer software and knowledge of customer-focused service requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications: Certifications such as breast or RVT are preferred.
