Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Victim Advocate to join our team at the Town of Frederick. As a Victim Advocate, you will provide critical support and services to victims of crime, ensuring they receive the necessary assistance and resources to navigate the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention and individual and family support to victims of crime
  • Offer information about the criminal justice system, victim rights, and available resources
  • Work closely with victims, their families, witnesses, police officers, detectives, and court personnel to provide advocacy services
  • Respond to emergencies and provide on-call support as needed
  • Complete and submit required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Attend monthly training sessions to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry developments
Requirements
  • Ability to work with empathy, caring, and tact
  • Understanding and ability to relate to diverse populations
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong relationship-building, conflict resolution, and mediation skills
  • Positive and outgoing personality with a professional demeanor
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide compassionate, non-judgmental support to victims of crime
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Colorado driver's license and proof of a clean driving record
  • Pass a comprehensive background check and CVSA
  • Commit to at least 12 months of service
  • Reside within Frederick, Firestone, Dacono, or Mead (or within 30 minutes of town limits)
  • Be willing to respond to all four jurisdictions
  • Have a working phone and reliable transportation
Training and Development
  • Complete 40 hours of initial training provided by the Carbon Valley, Mead Victim Services Program and other participating victim services programs
  • Shadow another staff or volunteer advocate for at least 4 shifts
Working Environment and Physical Requirements

The physical demands of this role require the ability to talk, see, and hear, as well as use hands to finger, handle, touch, or feel. The role involves frequent standing, walking, sitting, and reaching with hands and arms. Work is performed in the field and may require exposure to various weather conditions.
