About the Role

The Investing Team at Betterment provides domain expertise to build product solutions that deliver financial advice to customers. We engage in rigorous R&D and iteration to create long-term value and efficiencies for clients. As a Quantitative Researcher, you will be responsible for executing portfolio management and advice tool processes, contributing to the development of advice-driven algorithms, and verifying compliance with existing regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Iterate on code development for Research & Development and Production environments
  • Maintain internal analytic libraries and tools impacting portfolio construction and advice infrastructure
  • Own recurring workflows involving portfolio allocations and assumptions driving advice tools
  • Assist with automating processes, ongoing analyses, and quality assurance processes
  • Contribute to researching, prototyping, reviewing, and implementing quantitative methods driving client advice and trading execution algorithms
  • Build strategic relationships with Capital Markets, Product, and Engineering teams to bring investing products to life
  • Interface with compliance and legal teams to ensure governance and documentation of Betterment portfolio management and advice
  • Answer client and internal stakeholder questions on Betterment's approach to investing and advice tools
  • Support the team with writing, researching, and analyzing content on financial markets and the macroeconomy
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience in financial services
  • Strong mathematical foundation with hands-on experience in quantitative and statistical techniques
  • Experience writing production-quality, scalable, efficient code for reliable testing
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and Python or R
  • Experience with Git and Julia is advantageous
  • Resourcefulness, efficiency, and ability to conduct independent research
  • Clear and effective communication skills
