Job Overview

Under the guidance of the Center Director, the Electrical Training Specialist is responsible for delivering technical education in various electrician competencies. This includes foundational courses in the Electrical Industry, Electrical Mathematics, and specialized training in Residential and Commercial Electricity, as well as Basic Photovoltaics and Computer Skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates classroom instruction employing diverse teaching methods such as small group discussions and individualized training sessions.
  • Designs and integrates skill development objectives into lesson plans, showcasing effective pedagogical techniques.
  • Incorporates vocational English into lesson plans and practical training, catering to students with limited English proficiency.
  • Creates comprehensive written materials and handouts that are clear and organized.
  • Provides guidance on job readiness, including resume crafting, interview strategies, and job retention skills, while incorporating insights on the hidden job market.
  • Conducts informational sessions for prospective students and new applicants.
  • Employs engaging instructional strategies to involve all students in learning activities, utilizing multimedia tools to enhance the educational experience.
  • Maintains a professional and organized classroom/shop environment conducive to learning.
  • Interacts positively with students, colleagues, and supervisors, modeling expected workplace behavior and managing classroom dynamics effectively.
  • Conducts one-on-one advising sessions, encouraging students to achieve greater success in their skill development and attendance.
  • Evaluates student progress against established standards and criteria.
  • Follows up with students regarding their job status and graduates, sharing relevant information with the management information systems department.
  • Coordinates guest speakers and industry tours to broaden employment opportunities for students.
  • Builds relationships with the Industrial Advisory Board and Technical Team members.
  • Collaborates with staff to assess student and program needs, contributing to the overall guidance and development of each student.
  • Maintains confidential records, including attendance and progress reports, in compliance with federal and state regulations regarding student data protection.
  • Utilizes software for analyzing, processing, and verifying statistical data, as well as preparing training materials.
  • Researches and selects instructional resources and equipment, managing inventory effectively.
  • Assists in planning and executing special projects and program events, participating in recruitment activities and other initiatives.
  • Continues professional development through ongoing education in relevant subject areas and teaching methodologies.
  • Attends staff development sessions, which may involve travel as necessary.
  • Ensures organization and safety within the classroom and work areas, conducting regular inspections and reporting hazards as needed.
  • Acts as the campus security authority during emergencies or safety situations.
  • Performs additional duties related to the program as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; seeking an instructor for an Electrician Certification course.
  • Minimum of five years of industry experience, with Journeyman Level or C-10 Certification or equivalent knowledge.
  • Experience in both Residential and Commercial electrical work is essential.
  • Preferred experience in teaching and working with diverse populations.
  • Basic computer skills are necessary for managing student progress and attendance.
  • Possession of an electrical contractor's license is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Driver's License:

Possession of a valid driver's license may be required for various duties, including attending meetings and transporting materials.

Background Check:

Criminal background checks are mandatory for instructor applicants recommended for hire.

Working Conditions:

This position involves a combination of standing, sitting, and hands-on technical demonstrations, requiring physical stamina and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
