Job Title: Night-Time Custodian

Join the Osnaburg Local School District team as a Night-Time Custodian, responsible for maintaining the school facilities in optimal condition to support the best educational experiences for our students.

Job Summary

The Night-Time Custodian will oversee the maintenance and custodial services of the school system, ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of the buildings. This role requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect school properties on a regular basis and make recommendations for maintenance, care, and upkeep.
  • Oversee the maintenance/custodial program throughout the year, ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety codes and standards.
  • Purchase necessary maintenance/custodial supplies and equipment, using approved purchasing procedures.
  • Recommend a systematic long-range preventative maintenance program and its anticipated costs to the Superintendent.
  • Supervise outside contractors performing work for the district and coordinate vacation schedules for departmental personnel.
  • Provide verbal input for the evaluation of custodial and maintenance personnel.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to order supplies and control inventory.
  • Ability to organize work schedules and direct personnel.
  • Skill in working with a variety of personnel.
  • Ability to articulate a clear vision and provide leadership to advance the change process.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and engenders staff enthusiasm.
  • Skillfully manages individual, group, and organizational interactions.
  • Averts problem situations and intervenes to resolve conflicts.
  • Interprets information accurately and initiates effective responses.

Working Conditions

The Night-Time Custodian will work in a fast-paced environment, with exposure to various situations, including:

  • Duties may require balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, kneeling, reaching, standing, working at various heights, and in confined spaces.
  • Duties may require lifting, carrying, and moving work-related supplies/equipment.
  • Duties may require operating and/or riding in a vehicle.
  • Duties may require traveling to meetings and work assignments.
  • Duties may require working in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor.
  • Duties may require wearing protective clothing and using safety equipment.
  • Duties may require working extended hours.
  • Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines.
  • Potential for exposure to adverse weather conditions and temperature extremes.
  • Potential for exposure to air-borne particulates, chemical irritants, combustible materials, electrical hazards, equipment vibrations, noises, and odors.
  • Potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
  • Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
