We are seeking a Retail Sales Associate, Part-Time who is eager to explore their potential, develop professionally, and enjoy the benefits of being part of the US FOODS family.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

The US FOODS Retail Sales Associate PT plays a vital role in fostering an environment of exceptional customer service, supporting the US FOODS mission: Quality Food, Made Accessible. Our team is essential in embodying the US FOODS Cultural Values: Deliver Excellence, Minimize Waste, Collaborate for Success, Communicate Openly, and Value Every Individual.

As an integral member of our workforce, you will take on various responsibilities, including Cashier, Stocker, and Customer Service Representative, and must be dedicated to providing outstanding service while exemplifying this commitment in all job functions. Throughout your shift, you may be assigned to different departments based on customer and business requirements. Under the guidance of store management, you may work in any of the following areas: the front end of the store, selling products, and assisting customers during the checkout process.

  • Engaging with customers in our Meat/Frozen, Produce/Dairy, and Dry Goods/Culinary Equipment & Supply departments.
  • Restocking merchandise and ensuring proper product rotation across all departments.
  • Assisting during special store events, such as Vendor Fairs, sales floor resets, and inventory counts.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Front End:

  • Ensure every customer enjoys a remarkable US FOODS experience by building and nurturing relationships with store patrons.
  • Apply all skills and knowledge gained through US FOODS training and demonstrate this behavior within the store.
  • Efficiently and accurately handle sales and cash transactions at the POS, including scanning items, weighing products, and resolving scanning issues.
  • Confirm that each item's barcode is correctly represented in the system and report any inconsistencies to the Front End Lead or Manager of the Day.
  • Conduct visual inspections during cart-to-cart transfers at checkout to ensure product integrity.
  • Perform opening and closing tasks at the front end as assigned based on your shift.

Sales Floor and Stocking:

  • Maintain a strong focus on boosting sales and managing inventory loss. Assist customers in locating products and informing them of available services.
  • Help receive inventory shipments and organize stock on shelves neatly while ensuring proper rotation and quality checks. Notify management of low stock levels.
  • Ensure all products are correctly labeled, including tagging unscannable items and applying catch weight labels for bulk items.
  • Restock the sales floor daily by moving products from top stock, adhering to FIFO practices.
  • Utilize equipment such as reach trucks and pallet jacks for product movement and stocking.
  • Employ computer programs like Microsoft Word and Excel, along with proprietary software as necessary.
  • Ensure products are accessible, visually appealing, and consistently available.
  • Assist with pricing changes as directed by the Pricing Lead and Store Management. Participate in store opening and closing duties, as well as inventory processes as needed.

Customer Service:

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for both staff and customers by adhering to safety policies and practices.
  • Report any safety concerns to store management and address them when possible.
  • Ensure cleanliness across the sales floor, front end, and restrooms using appropriate cleaning equipment.
  • Keep the parking lot and store entrance tidy.
  • Collect shopping carts from the parking lot and ensure they are clean and functional.
  • In addition to the above duties, you may be assigned other responsibilities as directed by Store Management.

  • Internal: Interaction with employees at all levels within the organization. External: Engagement with customers and other service and product providers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is conducted in a retail setting open to the public, with exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.
  • Work is typically performed on level surfaces, though ladder use or elevated work may be required as necessary.
  • Temperature can vary throughout the store, ranging from -10 to 85 degrees.
  • Regular interaction with customers is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6-12 months of experience in retail cashiering and/or stocking is required.
  • At least one year of experience in retail sales and/or customer service is preferred.

EDUCATION

  • A high school diploma or equivalent work experience is required.
