Job Title: Paralegal

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Paralegal to join our team at Legal Aid of West Virginia. As a Paralegal, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality legal representation to low-income clients in southern and northern West Virginia.

Job Summary:

The Paralegal will work under the supervision of attorneys to provide legal assistance to clients in various areas, including social security disability cases, Medicaid cases, welfare cases, and domestic violence protective order proceedings. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities:
  1. Provide legal representation to clients in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  2. Maintain accurate and complete files or records.
  3. Interact with clients and staff professionally and appropriately.
  4. Attend and participate in statewide planning meetings, trainings, and task forces.
  5. Make an effort to involve private attorneys in the provision of legal services to eligible clients.
Requirements:
  1. Associate's degree or paralegal certificate and a minimum of 2 years of experience or 4 years of experience.
  2. Demonstrable commitment to understanding and addressing issues of low-income constituents.
  3. Skills to use office technologies, including learning LAWV case management software.
  4. Ability to balance administrative and client advocacy responsibilities.
  5. Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  6. Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently.
Benefits:

The Paralegal position offers a competitive salary range of $31,100-$36,100, a generous benefits package, a 37.5-hour workweek, paid vacation leave, and sick leave, as well as health, dental, vision, and life benefits. Staff also have the option to participate in a 403(b)-retirement plan and dependent and health flex savings accounts (FSA). Legal Aid of West Virginia is an eligible nonprofit employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
