Reports To: Customer Service Supervisor
Hourly Rate: $17.64
Position Type: Full-Time
Hours: 40 hrs/week

Job Overview:
This role is essential in executing clerical-accounting functions related to customer utility accounts. The responsibilities are beyond entry-level, involving routine tasks that are generally predefined, with supervisors available for guidance on new assignments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily cash transactions.
  • Calculate interest, taxes, or outstanding balances for billing purposes.
  • Maintain comprehensive records for regular accounts and related correspondence.
  • Provide information to the public on various inquiries.
  • Respond to correspondence and telephone inquiries.
  • Utilize computer input devices effectively.
  • Perform a diverse range of clerical accounting and related tasks.
  • Prepare service orders for water-related actions such as turn-ons, turn-offs, and meter changes.
  • Develop payment arrangements for customers.
  • Handle bank deposits, electronic check deposits, and process refunds.
  • Issue invoices to customers.
  • Receive payments, utilizing cash registers as necessary.
  • Issue receipts, record payments, and reconcile cash register transactions.
  • Ensure the security of cash handled.
  • Collect and receipt funds from other departments.
  • Monitor office supplies to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution is required.
  • Experience in clerical-accounting, cashiering, or call center environments is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be considered.

Language Skills:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written forms.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to interact with the public in a professional manner.
  • Capability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.

Reasoning Ability:
  • Ability to follow instructions and apply common sense understanding in various situations.
  • Capability to address problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations with limited supervision.

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with modern accounting practices.
  • Understanding of office terminology, procedures, and equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to type efficiently from clear or rough drafts.
  • Essential clerical aptitude, mental alertness, tact, and courtesy.

Work Environment:
The employee will work in an office setting, requiring extended periods of sitting and the ability to access file cabinets for data retrieval.
