The ultimate aim is to recruit permanent staff who align with the company's values and work ethic. The initial probationary period of around 90 days as a temp-to-hire employee allows you to demonstrate your capabilities and assess if the role is suitable for you.

ROLE SUMMARY
As a Heavy Equipment Operator, your duties will include inspecting incoming waste loads for compliance with regulations, operating heavy machinery such as dozers and compactors with skill and care, and being ready to assist with manual labor as needed.
To thrive in this role, you will need a combination of skills and attributes to effectively address the challenges of waste management. A key requirement is the ability to operate heavy machinery efficiently, along with a solid understanding of both light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance.
While experience with compactors is advantageous, it is not a prerequisite. You should be quick to learn, possess a strong work ethic, pay attention to detail, and be capable of following instructions accurately.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Inspect incoming loads for unauthorized waste without a spotter and complete inspection reports.
• Enforce safety protocols throughout the landfill.
• Perform heavy manual labor as required.
• Report any safety or compliance issues to the Landfill Crew Leader or Manager.
• Collect litter and assist with the setup and relocation of litter fences.
• Follow both oral and written instructions and work independently.
• Regularly operate heavy farm and landfill machinery, including fuel and water trucks, articulating dump trucks, bush hogs, tractors, and skid-steers.
• Operate heavy earth-moving equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and compactors.
• Complete daily equipment inspection sheets electronically after checking machinery for operational safety.
• Identify needed repairs and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
• Observe operations and suggest improvements for efficiency.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in a related field.
• Experience operating a compactor is a plus.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
• Must be reliable and dependable.
• Ability to quickly learn new skills.
• Must be punctual and have reliable transportation.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying materials up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 75 pounds.
• Must wear personal protective equipment.
