Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at UPMC. As a key member of our office staff, you will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service to patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear and understandable instructions to patients navigating the healthcare system
  • Follow up on unresolved patient questions or needs to ensure continuity of care
  • Assist with administrative duties, including scanning medical records and faxing
  • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or check-in at the desk
  • Schedule or connect patients to resources for ancillary services
  • Understand and apply principles of service recovery to resolve issues
  • Assist patients with financial responsibility and connect them to advocacy resources
  • Obtain patient or family member signatures for consent and financial responsibility
  • Verify insurance benefits and promote the MyUPMC patient portal
  • Collect copayments and patient payments at the point of service
  • Provide a warm greeting and register patients in the Biometrics program
  • Confirm and update patient registration information
  • Triangulate phone calls and schedule follow-up appointments
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent required
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications and office equipment preferred
  • Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems preferred
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33
  • Act 34
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
