Job Summary:

This position is responsible for delivering high-quality psychiatric care to patients of the Great Plains Tribal Leaders' Health Board (GPTLHB) commensurate with training and licensure.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluates patients by interviewing patient, family, and other persons; conducting physical examinations; observing behaviors; reviewing medical history and related documents; selecting, administering, and interpreting psychological tests; and ordering laboratory tests and evaluating results.
  • Develops treatment plans by determining nature and extent of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders and establishing treatment goals and methodologies.
  • Treats patients by utilizing psychotherapeutic methods and medications; discussing progress toward goals with patients; providing instructions; monitoring effect of medications; and supervising staff provision of services.
  • Maintains interdisciplinary treatment by reviewing treatment plans and progress, and consulting and collaborating with primary care physicians, mental health therapists, nurses, and other health care providers.
  • Collects, records, and maintains patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examinations results.
  • Records physical findings, and formulates plan and prognosis, based on patient's condition.
  • Monitors patients' conditions and progress and reevaluates treatments as necessary.
  • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Improves staff competence by providing training and discussions regarding the interrelationship between psychosocial and physiological problems, psychotropic medications, crisis intervention, and related issues.
  • Maintains historical records by documenting symptoms, medications, and treatment events and writing summaries.
  • Ensures accurate information is documented within the patient's electronic health record.
  • Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
  • Works closely with allied health professionals in the provision of broad health program services.
  • Interviews and examines patients. Instructs and counsels patients.
  • Actively participates in clinic quality improvement activities.
  • Participates in meetings and represents GPTLHB as required.
  • Utilizes EHR with accurate timely notes to ensure required documentation is entered for billing and referrals.
  • Must comply with federal laws and regulations as required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Provides clinical oversight.
  • Performs related duties.
Requirements:
  • Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school and successful completion of postgraduate training and an approved psychiatric or family medicine/psychiatric residency program.
  • Must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine from any US State or Territory.
  • Board certified or Board eligible in psychiatry within three years of residency training.
  • DEA licensure.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required or must be obtained within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal and background check and a pre-employment drug screen.
Work Environment:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items; or driving an automobile. The employee must be able to read, write, speak, and hear. The work involves moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety precautions, including exposure to contagious diseases. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or masks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
