Job Summary

As a Special Education Paraprofessional, you will provide essential support to our instructional staff in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your role will involve assisting with classroom organization, management, and the development of instructional materials. You will work closely with teachers to help reinforce learning objectives and support students in achieving their academic goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in preparing educational materials and resources for students.
  • Work one-on-one with students or in small groups to reinforce learning objectives and promote academic success.
  • Support the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, maintaining attendance records, and grading quizzes as assigned.
  • Participate in lunchroom, recess, and bus duties, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students.
  • Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of bulletin boards and learning centers, enhancing the overall learning experience.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator, supporting the overall mission of Fulton County Schools.
Requirements

Education
High School Diploma or equivalent is required. In lieu of a high school diploma, a GED equivalent is acceptable. Additionally, a minimum score of 250 on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment within one year of hire is required. Alternatively, two years (60 semester hours) of college coursework above the remedial level with a grade of 'C' or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution is acceptable.

Certification/Licensure
Obtaining the Georgia PSC Paraprofessional Certificate within one year of hire is mandatory.

Experience
0-1 year of experience is required. Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with students and adults.
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written language of instruction is required for working in the Dual Immersion program.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Working Conditions
  • Classroom environment.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • May require lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, or crouching.
  • Requires ability to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair.
  • Typically sitting, standing, walking.
