About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Department Chief Engineer to join our team at MITRE. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in cybersecurity and AI domains. Your primary focus will be on delivering high-impact solutions to our sponsors, driving innovation, and developing department talent.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of innovative cybersecurity and AI solutions to address complex problems for our sponsors.
  • Collaborate with the Department Manager and Project Leaders to shape the work program and ensure alignment with sponsor priorities.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise to the department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality products and services.
  • Develop and mentor junior staff, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
  • Partner with external organizations to leverage capabilities and platforms, ensuring strategic alignment with our work program.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 12 years of related experience with a bachelor's degree in computer science, systems or cyber engineering, or related field; or 10 years and a master's degree; or a PhD with 7 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated technical experience delivering impactful cyber solutions for government sponsors.
  • Experience with AI techniques for cyber applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to articulate complex topics to sponsors and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in collaborative and dynamic environments fostering innovation in areas that provide enhanced capabilities to MITRE's sponsors and result in significant mission impact.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A master's degree or PhD in computer science, systems or cyber engineering, or related field as well as 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience engaging and influencing the MITRE Innovation Program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated technical experience delivering impactful cyber solutions for DoD sponsors.
  • Solid technical underpinnings with zero trust approaches.
  • Recognized thought leader in cyber and/or AI domains.
