As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for driving Salvation Army trucks to scheduled routes to pick up donations and deliver merchandise to customers. You will operate the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. Your duties will include lifting, loading, and unloading a variety of donations, ensuring the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and contributions at all times. You will also assist in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse, maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area, and conferring regularly with the Warehouse Supervisor to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations.
Responsibilities:- Drive Salvation Army trucks to scheduled routes to pick up donations and deliver merchandise to customers.
- Operate the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations.
- Lift, load, and unload a variety of donations, ensuring the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and contributions at all times.
- Assist in performing work in the thrift store and warehouse.
- Maintain the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
- Confer regularly with the Warehouse Supervisor to maintain awareness of scheduled pick-ups of donations.
- Assist driver in lifting and stacking donations in the truck and unloading the truck at the warehouse.
- Deliver appliances or furniture as requested by customers.
- Drive to the dump and metal recycling center to dispose of non-useable donations.
- Ensure the truck meets the scheduled maintenance and performs operator maintenance with established standards.
- Drive carefully and observe and comply with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
- Park the vehicle in a safe marked parking space and lock vehicle doors when the vehicle is not in use.
- Fuel vehicles with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.
- Log all mileage on standard forms daily; complete collection forms daily; ensure the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- High School diploma or G.E.D. and experience working in a retail store preferred.
- One year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
- Valid Driver's License with a DOT Health Card or the ability to get such a card.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
Work requires driving a vehicle and working in a warehouse with exposure to the outdoors, where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
