Job Overview

The Director of Nursing Simulation Lab will be responsible for designing and implementing simulation curriculum, working collaboratively with colleagues to develop educational activities, and conducting assessments of need. This role requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and exercise discretion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement simulation curriculum, including designing scenarios and managing activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop educational activities and ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards.
  • Conduct assessments of need and evaluate the effectiveness of simulation on student learning and clinical decision making.
  • Develop methods to evaluate student and client satisfaction with departmental and simulation center programs.
  • Assure appropriate credentials are maintained in specialty areas/disciplines.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement, innovation, and development of initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education.
  • Investigate and submit proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives.
  • Provide orientation of faculty, and students to principles of simulation training and debriefing techniques, and provide faculty with related literature.
  • Collaborate with IT Manager, Simulation Technicians to Program patient care simulators, prepare scenario props, and create scenario moulage (make-up) to model physiological responses to the clinical and skill objectives.
  • Ensure student compliance with lab policies, procedures, and safety precautions.
  • Supports the short-, immediate, and long-term teaching, research of the University.
  • Supports the development of course curricula. Uses technical knowledge of Center capabilities and procedures to ensure that syllabi are accurate and appropriate.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
  • Maintains professional knowledge.
  • Understand or willing to learn the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators and virtual reality surgical simulators.
  • Attend educational and technical workshops. Establish personal networks.
  • Benchmarking state-of-the-art practices. Participating in professional societies.
  • Assist with other special projects or initiates as needed. Communicate in a positive, professional manner with faculty, students and other users of the Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Texas.
  • Minimum of 2 year's experience in an academic, healthcare, or simulation learning environment.
  • Experience with curriculum development and training preferred.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Laerdal, METI, Gaumard, Harvey and other simulation systems and equipment.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends.
