Position Overview:


The primary role of a phlebotomist involves executing various assigned tasks, troubleshooting issues, providing training, and recommending workflow improvements.

Experience in performing blood draws, labeling samples, centrifuging specimens, maintaining records, and ensuring proper decontamination while updating patient information is essential.

Responsibilities include collecting and preserving specimens in accordance with established protocols.


Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process (blood drawing) and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) as necessary.

Demonstrate proficiency in techniques using both straight and butterfly needles.

Comprehend all physician orders thoroughly.

Ensure laboratory requisition forms match specimen tubes, accurately label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by the test order.

Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to guarantee 100% accuracy.

Package specimens appropriately for transport


Store specimen samples at the required temperatures, place samples in the correct collection containers/tubes, label accurately, and adhere to specific protocols necessary for transport to maintain specimen integrity.

Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participate in annual departmental training sessions.

Respond to telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to address questions.

Qualifications:

Phlebotomy certification in California.

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Possess a valid driver's license.

Have reliable transportation.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field.

Compensation:

$30.00 per hour.
