We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Nurse Extern to join our team at WellSpan Health Services. As a Nurse Extern, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable clinical experience and develop your skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care and assist with data collection, provision of care, and completion of therapeutic interventions.
- Assist with the preparation and transportation of patients for tests and procedures.
- Monitor patient condition levels and report changes to the appropriate individuals.
- Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, weight, respiration, pulse, pain, and department-specific requirements.
- Perform selected procedures, such as catheterization, nasogastric tube insertion and care, wound care, administration of tube feedings, enema administration, and ostomy care.
- Set up and remove equipment and supplies, and ensure equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
- Perform EKGs and Point-of-Care testing, including blood glucose, hemoccult, and specific gravity testing.
- Run special errands and respond to light calls.
- Ensure patient rooms, nursing areas, supply carts, and other areas are stocked with appropriate items at required levels.
- Maintain par levels of supplies and equipment on assigned units and notify supervisor when reorder points are reached.
- Currently enrolled in an approved Nursing program with completion of two clinical semesters.
- Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
- Completion of a formal Nurse Extern Program upon hire.
