Job Summary:

Universal Engineering Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Staff Engineer to join our Construction Services Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for working closely with various personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, tests, and aerial photographs to plan and design projects.
  • Calculate costs and determine the feasibility of projects based on collected data.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, testing schedules, and designs for projects.
  • Inspect construction sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering test plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Work closely with laboratory personnel to ensure projects, test results, and similar elements of the Construction Services Department are being addressed properly and thoroughly.
  • Direct activities at project sites as necessary.
  • Use computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Ensure that all testing equipment used is functioning properly, maintained as required by company and/or manufacturer's policy, and that all calibrated equipment is within its calibration cycle.
  • Ensure that project testing requirements are met and compliant with project specifications, requirements, and company policies or procedures.
  • Complete daily time and labor reports in accordance with company policy.
  • Turn in required paperwork daily.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Must be flexible to changing schedules and hours to support business needs. Overnight and weekends schedules may be necessary to support business needs.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and policies.

Requirements:

  • Valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida's Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification).
  • Engineering Intern (E.I.) Certification.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in civil or geotechnical engineering from a four-year college or university; one to two years of experience and/or training.
  • Ability to read & write, including interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, as well as the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and customers/clients.
  • Computer skills sufficient to operate a laptop, including sending and receiving emails, and the ability to learn Field Data Collection (FDC)/Inspector Gadget to input data and prepare reports.
  • Mathematical skills sufficient to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, rough terrain, and physical labor, including lifting and handling equipment.
