Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the radiation oncologist and lead therapist, the radiation therapist is tasked with delivering the highest quality radiation therapy services to patients.
This role involves collaboration within a professional team to ensure effective treatment delivery, simulation, and brachytherapy, along with any other aspects related to radiation therapy.
Key Responsibilities:The primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Managing patient care responsibilities, which may involve: organizing patient schedules, escorting patients to treatment areas, and assisting with mobility and preparation for treatment.
- Conducting warm-up and calibration checks on equipment as required, including linear accelerators, HDR, and CT warm-up procedures. Ensuring the accuracy of photon and electron beams and documenting any findings that deviate from established physics standards.
- Fabricating necessary materials such as blocks, molds, bolus, and immobilization devices.
- Administering radiation treatments according to prescribed plans while ensuring patient safety through adherence to departmental protocols.
- Maintaining comprehensive and accurate treatment records to assure quality delivery.
- Performing imaging procedures such as portal films, CBCT, or KV imaging to ensure proper treatment portal placement and adjusting treatment fields as necessary.
- Assisting in the administration of contrast agents during treatment localization and performing measurements for treatment calculations.
- Providing clear explanations of treatment procedures to patients and maintaining effective communication throughout the treatment process.
- Addressing patient concerns and assessing their physical and emotional needs.
- Coordinating daily treatment schedules efficiently and maintaining accurate records, including billing information.
- Preparing treatment rooms and equipment according to prescribed specifications.
- Conducting regular patient chart checks and performing all duties as assigned by the lead radiation therapist and radiation director.
- Acting as a patient advocate while ensuring privacy and confidentiality.
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
- A clean and organized work environment.
- Proficiency in computer systems, particularly EMR.
- A strong work ethic characterized by integrity, a positive attitude, and a commitment to continuous learning.
- The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
- Compliance with OSHA guidelines regarding radiation and biohazardous waste.
- Current registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the State of Arizona.
- Completion of an accredited associate degree program and a minimum of one year of radiation therapy experience.
- CPR certification.
