Position Overview
The Preschool Culinary Supervisor will undertake a range of innovative, organizational, and leadership responsibilities.
Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Culinary Supervisor will ensure the delivery of exceptional services to provide children with a superior nutritional experience.
This role involves preparing meals for children aged 12 months to 6 years.
The Culinary Supervisor will design, plan, and implement cooking classes, manage and cultivate the Academy Garden, and cater for various company events, including community gatherings and appreciation days.
Inventory Management and Compliance
- Guarantees that all food items are stored, prepared, and served according to established recipe guidelines and portion standards.
- Develops comprehensive recipes and ingredient lists to ensure compliance and consistency in cooking practices.
- Orders kitchen supplies and ingredients based on menu requirements and seasonal availability, ensuring the kitchen is stocked for the month and accounting for weekly needs.
- Oversees inventory management using tools such as tracking sheets, ordering protocols, and safety checks.
- Conducts monthly inventory assessments in line with budgetary and par level requirements.
- Ensures compliance with DCF regulations and maintains high standards through regular safety audits.
- Adheres to My Plate and FDA guidelines for food safety, completing necessary logs as directed by management.
- Implements food waste reduction strategies, including feedback surveys and special programs.
- Successfully passes all health inspections and complies with food program regulations.
Sanitation and Organization
- Maintains a sanitized work environment, ensuring all chemicals are labeled according to safety standards.
- Organizes cabinets and appliance spaces for optimal efficiency.
- Utilizes appropriate labeling for food items based on established protocols.
- Ensures all kitchen equipment is in good working order.
- Maintains cleanliness of aprons and towels for effective kitchen sanitation.
Food Preparation and Training Duties
- Prepares and distributes water and cleaning supplies to classrooms each morning.
- Prepares and serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks, adhering to recipe compliance and portion control.
- Develops menus with a two-week rotation for food offerings, utilizing design tools for presentation.
- Manages the kitchen budget as directed by the Executive Director.
- Trains staff on safe kitchen equipment operation and proper handling of materials.
- Ensures compliance with food allergy requirements and maintains updated allergy lists.
- Prepares meals for catered events and oversees setup and breakdown for various gatherings.
- Participates in community events to promote the Academy.
- Prepares catering for open house and fundraising events.
- Exhibits professionalism and strong leadership qualities.
Educational Engagement
- Facilitates the creation and maintenance of a Daycare Garden, engaging with children in gardening activities.
- Develops and conducts cooking classes for children of all ages, collaborating with the Assistant Director on curriculum projects.
- Fills in for classroom breaks as needed, as directed by the Executive Director.
- High School Diploma.
- Completion of required training and certifications.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an executive chef in a childcare or healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of national and state education standards, licensing requirements, and health regulations.
- CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain.
- A passion for working with children and a commitment to making a positive impact.
- Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.
- Physical ability to lift at least 40 pounds and engage in various physical activities.
- Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
- Willingness to perform additional duties as assigned.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and design software.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
