Job Overview

Position Summary: The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a vital role in delivering patient care within a clinical environment. This position is responsible for addressing the psychosocial, physical, and general aspects of patient care, ensuring effective communication with patients and their families, and upholding the standards of care under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or physician. Compliance with regulatory requirements and adherence to office policies and procedures are essential components of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct patient care under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner, assess outcomes, and collaborate with other healthcare team members as necessary.
  • Assist medical professionals during routine examinations and treatment procedures, catering to a diverse patient demographic including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric populations.
  • Alert licensed personnel promptly when patients express discomfort or pain.
  • Execute patient care tasks while considering the specific needs related to the patient's age and condition.
  • Ensure all patient care activities are conducted in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of healthcare errors.
  • Exhibit understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, applying appropriate care techniques for various age groups.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques during treatments and special procedures.
  • Prepare and position patients effectively for office procedures.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with colleagues, practitioners, and management.
  • Assist practitioners with procedures and perform tasks requiring technical skills under their direction.
  • Uphold respect and dignity for patients and their families, addressing their psychosocial, cultural, and spiritual needs during education and care.
  • Engage professionally with patients and families, involving them in the educational process regarding their care.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols for examination and procedure areas; perform cleaning and disinfection duties as required.
  • Maintain office instruments and demonstrate knowledge of sterilization processes and indicators.
  • Follow established office policies and procedures, including performance improvement initiatives and safety standards.
  • Keep accurate records of injections and monitor medication expiration dates.
  • Complete lab requisitions with precise and relevant information for billing purposes.
  • Answer phone calls professionally, directing inquiries appropriately and scheduling patient appointments.
  • Ensure an adequate supply of medical materials and equipment.
  • Contribute to cost management by ordering supplies judiciously and conserving resources.
  • Foster a collaborative working environment with all office staff.
  • Operate medical equipment safely and perform routine maintenance as needed.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and organizational skills while managing stressful situations effectively.
  • Respond appropriately to patient needs in emergency or distressing circumstances.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned within the scope of practice for medical assistants.

  • Adhere to dress code policies, maintaining a neat and professional appearance.
  • Complete required annual training and educational updates.
  • Comply with all regulatory standards, including state, federal, and CMS guidelines.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality is maintained at all times.
  • Arrive to work punctually and fulfill scheduled hours efficiently.
  • Wear identification while on duty and utilize the computerized timekeeping system correctly.
  • Participate in annual reviews and scheduled in-service training.
  • Attend staff meetings and review meeting minutes regularly.
  • Represent the organization positively within the community.
  • Engage in quality improvement activities and attend relevant committee meetings.
  • Adhere to ethical business practices in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Communicate the mission, vision, core values, and goals of the healthcare facility.
  • Maintain positive relationships with practitioners, departments, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with policies related to departmental operations, safety, and infection control.

Regulatory Requirements:

  • Current CPR certification is mandatory.
