About the Role

DHVAJ is seeking a skilled Psychiatric Care Specialist to join our team. This is a dynamic and rewarding role that requires strong clinical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to assess patients' mental health status, including history, symptoms, and functional abilities. Formulate differential diagnoses based on clinical findings and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for comprehensive treatment planning.
  2. Medication Management: Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications, adjusting dosages and treatment regimens based on patient response and side effects. Educate patients and their families about medications, potential risks, benefits, and alternative treatments.
  3. Psychotherapy and Counseling: Provide psychotherapy and counseling services, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), supportive therapy, and other evidence-based modalities. Conduct individual and group therapy sessions to address mental health issues and promote recovery.
  4. Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care. Consult with primary care providers, educators, and community organizations to promote mental health awareness and integrated care.
  5. Crisis Intervention and Management: Assess and intervene during psychiatric emergencies or crisis situations, ensuring patient safety and appropriate care coordination. Provide counseling and support to patients and families facing acute mental health crises.
  6. Patient Advocacy and Education: Advocate for patients' rights to access mental health services and resources, including social services, housing assistance, and support groups. Educate patients and families about mental health disorders, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms and improving overall well-being.
  7. Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential medical records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with legal and ethical standards. Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and other regulatory requirements.
  8. Professional Development: Pursue continuing education opportunities to stay current with advancements in psychiatric treatments, pharmacology, and therapeutic techniques. Maintain licensure and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in Indiana and/or Kentucky, adhering to state-specific regulations.
Qualifications
  • Mastery of MSN or DNP degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Board certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Indiana and/or Kentucky, with prescriptive authority.
  • Significant experience in psychiatric and mental health nursing, encompassing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health disorders across the lifespan.
