- Interpret tree trimming, removal, and spraying directives from the General Foreman or customer representative.
- Organize and schedule daily tasks for your crew, considering time requirements, cleanup, available equipment, weather conditions, and customer permissions.
- Conduct a Pre-Job Hazard Assessment at each site with all crew members and assign tasks based on individual skills and knowledge.
- Perform line clearing and tree trimming services for utility clients, including pruning treetops and limbs, removing at-risk or damaged trees, and clearing broken limbs from wires and roofs.
- Climb trees and operate aerial lifts for trimming and removals near power lines.
- Prepare, operate, and maintain all tools and equipment, including hand tools, chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
- Clear limbs and brush, and manage debris disposal.
- Mix and apply spray chemicals to preserve desirable vegetation.
- Ensure the safety of employees and the public in and around the work area.
- Enforce safety protocols on the job.
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Top Trimmer, Crew Leader, or Crew Foreman, particularly around utility lines.
- Strong leadership abilities, including effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of tree species, growth patterns, and proper arboricultural techniques for trimming, pruning, and removal, especially near energized lines. Experience in tree climbing, knot tying, and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Understanding of diagrams and symbols related to types of lines, voltage, and line equipment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting at least 50 lbs. to shoulder height or more.
- Capability to operate two-handed equipment (chainsaw, circular saw, etc.) and endure varying weather conditions.
- A valid driver's license is required; a CDL and/or medical certificate may be necessary for the vehicle operated.
- Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications.
