West Alton, Missouri, United States National Audubon Society Full time

Overview:

The National Audubon Society is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of avian species and their habitats across the Americas. Our mission is to ensure a thriving future for birds, supported by a robust and diverse community of over 1.5 million active advocates and more than 700 dedicated staff members.

Since 1970, North America has witnessed a staggering decline of three billion birds, with over 500 species facing the threat of extinction in Latin America and the Caribbean. Birds serve as vital indicators of environmental health, signaling urgent issues regarding our planet's well-being. As a unified force, we are committed to combating climate change and habitat degradation, striving to restore bird populations and enhance biodiversity through various conservation initiatives, community engagement, and policy advocacy.

At Audubon, we foster a culture of excellence and inclusivity, where our diverse team members feel a profound sense of belonging. Just as the birds we protect vary in their characteristics and habitats, we celebrate the remarkable diversity of humanity, which enriches our conservation efforts and leadership across the hemisphere.

Position Summary:

The Wildlife Conservation Team Supervisor will play a pivotal role in guiding a conservation-focused program for young adults, providing them with a 7-week paid experiential learning opportunity in wildlife preservation, outdoor recreation, and environmental education.

This position involves overseeing the implementation of a summer job initiative for teens, blending exposure to environmental careers with hands-on experience in facilitating educational programs in a camp environment. In the initial weeks, participants will undergo training in essential areas such as water conservation, wildlife protection, and habitat restoration, while engaging in local conservation projects. They will also have the chance to network with professionals in the environmental sector and explore potential career paths. Furthermore, participants will apply their acquired knowledge to lead educational programs, empowering them to become future stewards of the environment by sharing conservation insights with their peers.

As the summer progresses, the team will transition into roles as camp counselors, utilizing their training to conduct outdoor educational activities for youth in elementary grades. Participants will enthusiastically support campers in developing outdoor skills through engaging activities like wildlife tracking, archery, campfire cooking, canoeing, and nature exploration. In small group settings, they will serve as positive role models, nurturing campers' curiosity about nature and creating memorable summer camp experiences.

Compensation:
