The Facilities Custodial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the custodial team within designated buildings, ensuring that cleanliness and maintenance standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain regular communication with the Custodial Services Manager to assess and address the custodial requirements of assigned facilities.
- Conduct routine inspections of facilities to verify that all cleaning services are executed as per directives.
- Engage in the quality assurance initiatives set forth by the Custodial Operations Manager.
- Supervise the appropriate use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Contribute to the formulation of operational guidelines for custodial standards and related activities.
- Assist in organizing and executing departmental duties for special events and daily operational setups.
- Manage the custodial staff within assigned buildings, ensuring adherence to performance standards.
- Participate in personnel management tasks, including interviewing candidates, providing guidance and discipline to staff, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies.
- Track and document employee work hours and attendance effectively.
- Deliver training to staff in both individual and group settings.
- Promote a work environment characterized by inclusivity, respect, and positive employee morale.
Scope of Responsibility
The supervisor is tasked with cultivating a collaborative relationship between Facilities and Real Estate and the various university departments receiving custodial services. The role demands maintaining high service quality and supervising staff engaged in these operations.
Decision-Making Authority
The Facilities Custodial Supervisor operates under the guidance of the Custodial Services Manager but is expected to demonstrate problem-solving abilities and make independent decisions. This includes authorizing overtime, responding to emergencies, applying disciplinary measures, and addressing customer service needs.
Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for this role, enabling effective interaction across all organizational levels. The supervisor must maintain a professional and constructive relationship with all team members.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Familiarity with cleaning chemicals, equipment, and processes is preferred.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- A minimum of five years of experience in facilities management or custodial services.
- Previous supervisory experience in a service-oriented environment is highly desirable.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
- Frequent operation of computers and other equipment.
- Effective communication with colleagues.
- Visual acuity for inspecting work quality.
- Mobility to navigate the facilities.
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and holidays as needed.
