  • Health Services: Administer basic first aid, screen ill or injured students and staff, and assess the level of care needed.
  • Health Records: Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Medication Administration: Administer daily medications and treatments in accordance with district procedures under the supervision of the principal, as directed by the physician, with parent consent.
  • Consultation and Communication: Consult with the principal on matters related to emergency situations, suspected child abuse, contagious diseases, or other medically sensitive situations. Provide health information that may affect student performance in academic, social, or psychological areas.
  • Confidentiality: Treat confidential information with respect and maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Valid Medical Assistant Certification and CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Public schools and their operations, applicable laws, rules, and regulations, community resources, diverse multicultural populations, research-based prevention programs, knowledge of medical terminology, and basic first aid and CPR.
  • Physical Demands: Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, driving, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be required to lift students weighing up to 60 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Body Fluids and Travel: Incumbents may be subjected to body fluids and travel.
