About the Role

The University of Minnesota is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Mental Health Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our mental health services, you will provide psychotherapy and chemical dependency services to our clients, while also serving as a consultant for our staff and faculty.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide High-Quality Mental Health Services: Offer psychotherapy and chemical dependency services to individuals, families, and groups, addressing a wide range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use problems.
  • Develop Effective Treatment Plans: Create individualized treatment plans to meet the medical necessity of our clients, taking into account their unique needs and circumstances.
  • Provide Culturally Sensitive Care: Offer services through a trauma-informed care lens, respecting the cultural and diverse needs of our clients.
  • Collaborate with the University Community: Provide mental health consultation and training to our faculty and staff as needed, promoting a culture of mental wellness and support.
  • Assess and Refer Clients: Conduct screening assessments and diagnostic interviews, obtaining mental health and medical records as necessary, and referring clients to services that meet their psychosocial goals and address social determinants of health needs.
  • Participate in University-Wide Initiatives: Attend Boynton Health meetings and other meetings as assigned by your supervisor, contributing to the development of mental health services and initiatives that promote the well-being of our students and staff.
  • Supervise and Train Practicum Students: Supervise and/or participate in training programs for medical, psychiatric, and/or social work practicum students, mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals.
  • Document and Maintain Records: Document and maintain records in compliance with state and federal requirements, Boynton Health policy, and professional ethics standards, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of client services and outcomes.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree: A Master's degree in a relevant field, such as social work, counseling, or psychology, with a focus on mental health services.
  • Licensure: Licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or Licensed Psychologist (LP).
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of supervised practice in a mental health facility, with experience working with diverse populations and addressing a range of mental health conditions.
  • Cultural Competence: A demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion, with experience working with individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
