Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our team at Shaw Group. As a Welder, you will be responsible for welding together metal components of products using the TIG process.

Responsibilities
  • Manually guide the electrode or gun along the weld line, maintaining the length of the arc and speed of movement to form the specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Obtain the specified electrode and insert it into a portable holder or thread the consumable electrode wire through a portable welding gun.
  • Connect the cables from the welding unit to obtain the amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by the Welding Engineer.
  • Start the power supply to produce the electric current.
  • Strike the arc, which generates heat to make and deposit metal from the electrode to the work piece and join the edges of the work piece.
  • Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Clean or degrease the weld joint or work piece, using a wire brush, portable grinder, or chemical bath.
  • Repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes.
  • Prepare broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Chip off excess weld, slag, and spatter, using a hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Preheat the work piece, using a hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Position and clamp the work pieces together or assemble them in a jig or fixture.
  • Tack assemblies together.
  • Cut metal plates or structural shapes.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and previous years of related experience.
