Job SummaryWe're seeking a skilled Patient Service Representative to join our team at Summit Health, Inc. As a key member of our patient care team, you'll play a vital role in ensuring seamless patient experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and visitors, ensuring a friendly and professional greeting.
- Efficiently manage patient flow through the registration process, maintaining accurate records and updating patient information as needed.
- Answer phone calls, direct calls appropriately, and take accurate messages, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
- Inform patients of delays in physician schedules, assist with patient comfort, and update the electronic health record (EHR) to reflect accurate primary care physician (PCP) information.
- Process self-pay charges, collect payments, and provide patients with receipts, accurately reconciling daily payments and billing slips.
- Open and close batches properly, reconcile collections, prepare deposits, and document corrections.
- Scan insurance cards, process verifications using online systems, and update patient accounts, ensuring accurate demographics, insurance, HIPAA forms, and financial waivers.
- Schedule appointments accurately, using waitlists when applicable, and confirm future appointments as needed, reviewing eligibility and phone reports.
- Schedule and enter orders for diagnostic tests and procedures, following departmental workflows.
- Initiate authorization requests and work cooperatively with Patient Care Resources and clinical staff to ensure timely pre-authorizations.
- Complete referrals according to departmental guidelines and enter them into the appropriate system.
- Enroll patients in the patient portal and update lab, imaging, and pharmacy information.
- Perform screenings as applicable and arrange specific patient services, such as ASL interpreters and transportation.
- Effectively communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager promptly.
- Actively participate in pilot programs and perform patient outreach for Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs) and quality lists.
- Manage the Department Staff Inbox and patient ticklers, portal requests, and online scheduling requests.
- Complete letters as assigned, including no-show/late cancellation and return to work/school notifications.
- Perform various clerical duties, such as faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing, and mailings.
- Demonstrate flexibility with various work schedules, covering for other staff when asked, including other office locations.
- Demonstrate the ability to follow downtime procedures adequately.
- Perform other job duties as required.
This role requires physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, taking frequency and weight into consideration. Physical mobility, including movement from place to place on the job, is also necessary, taking distance and speed into account. Dexterity of hands and fingers, balance, and endurance are also essential.
Environmental RisksThis role may expose you to chemicals, chemotherapy, and fumes, loud noises, vibration, extreme temperatures, confined spaces, allergens, magnetic fields, radiation, sharps, latex, and combative patients/visitors. You may also be exposed to infectious hazards, blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens, and contact with patients or patient specimens.
Education, Certification, Computer, and Training RequirementsWe require a High School Graduate or GED equivalent. An Associate Degree is preferred. Previous PSR experience is also preferred. You must be able to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, and have excellent customer service skills. Basic proficiency in computer use is required, with previous experience with Standard Office Technology in a Windows-based environment preferred. Experience with EHR, Practice Management System, and Departmental/Ancillary Systems is also preferred.
