Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse

Classification: Support Personnel Pay Scale

Range: IV

Description: The School Licensed Practical Nurse plays a vital role in maintaining the health and well-being of students and staff at Fowler Elementary School District No. 45. This position requires a skilled and compassionate individual who can provide basic health services, assist in creating a healthy school environment, and work collaboratively with the administration and staff to minimize school absences due to illness and family issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer first aid and emergency care to students and staff, and follow up with professional help in severe or extreme emergency cases.
  • Dispense medications according to district policy and state law.
  • Use various types of medical equipment and machines as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain clear, well-organized student health records, including height and weight, hearing/vision screening, emergency cards, immunization records, allergy information, and handicapping condition(s), if applicable.
  • Schedule and implement school-based health screening and prevention programs.
  • Prepare, maintain, and submit current records on all school personnel.
  • Prepare and submit state reports as required.
  • Identify sensitive issues and immediately inform the Principal of any adverse situation(s).
  • Implement policies regarding communicable disease, infection, and animal bites, including exclusion and readmission of students, classroom inspections, and communication with parents, the administration, and government agencies as required.
  • Inform staff of health and safety issues for students and personnel.
  • Attend and serve on school-based meetings and committees, such as Child Study, 504's, Safety, etc.
  • Participate and/or facilitate in the implementation of school health programs.
  • Assist school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions.
  • Assist with identifying, reporting, and following up on any potential or existing hazards on campus.
  • Plan, budget, and order school-based health supplies and equipment.
  • Provide referrals for children and families regarding health, safety, and community support services.
  • Provide specialized medical training and procedures to staff and families.
  • Make home visits as necessary.
  • Assist with all student registrations to screen, identify, and address health-related issues.
  • Assist in the school office as needed.
  • Participate in district-sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend ongoing training classes and meetings as directed, and read professional journals and publications, etc., for continued professional development.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or information.
  • Support and follow the rules, regulations, and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school, and the District.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal, and/or Head Nurse for the District.

Length of Employment: Ten (10) Months

Reports to: School Principal for daily activities and emergencies, Head Nurse for the District for health-related duties

Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Board Policy GDO
