Position Overview:


Fairview Health Services is seeking a dedicated Orthopedic Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This role is essential in providing exceptional care to adult patients facing complex medical challenges that necessitate meticulous observation and intervention.


The Orthopedic Med/Surg RN will focus on patients undergoing a variety of orthopedic procedures, including but not limited to limb lengthening, tumor excisions, amputations, and joint replacements. Our unit is equipped to monitor patients requiring telemetry, ensuring comprehensive cardiac care.

Work Schedule:
This role offers a part-time commitment of 0.6 FTE (48 hours biweekly), with 12-hour night shifts and a rotation that includes every third weekend.

Department Insights:
Our Orthopedic Med/Surg unit features 23 beds, accommodating a mix of orthopedic and general medical/surgical patients. The RN-to-patient ratio is designed to ensure high-quality care, with 4 patients per RN on day/evening shifts and 4-6 patients on night shifts. Our team consists of RNs and nursing support staff across all shifts.


As an RN, you will be responsible for managing complex medication regimens and infusion therapies, utilizing various monitoring devices, and collaborating closely with orthopedic surgeons, residents, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and physical/occupational therapy teams. Support is provided by a Nurse Manager, Patient Care Supervisor, Clinical Nurse Specialist, and Clinical Development Specialist.

Key Responsibilities:


The RN will be accountable for:

  • Conducting thorough patient assessments and ongoing evaluations.
  • Developing and implementing individualized nursing care plans.
  • Prioritizing and delegating tasks among team members.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to professional standards.
  • Adjusting care approaches to meet the developmental and cultural needs of patients.
  • Collaborating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.


Qualifications:


Required:
- Associate degree in Nursing
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current RN License from the MN Board of Nursing


Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- One year of recent Med/Surg experience in a hospital setting
- Extended orientation may be available for RNs without prior experience.
