Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform various tasks related to receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis.
  • Exercise independent judgment in dealing with procedural and technical problems.
  • Ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.
  • Accession specimens using the LIS system, verifying container, requisition, and part type matches.
  • Use proper grossing techniques when dissecting specimens.
  • Properly embed tissue.
  • Maintain high-quality slides.
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment daily.
  • Assist pathologists and other lab personnel.
  • Stay current with changes in laboratory procedures.
  • Operate, clean, and sterilize laboratory glassware, instruments, and workstations.
  • Perform special stains and Immunohistochemistry using approved protocols and controls.
  • File, retrieve, and distribute blocks, slides, and pathology reports.
  • Answer phones professionally and maintain confidentiality.
  • Comply with State, Federal, professional regulations, and company policies.

Requirements:

  • Completion of a NAACLS accredited histotechnology program or an Associate degree plus one year full-time experience in histopathology within the last three years under the supervision of a pathologist.
  • Required ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
