About the Position

The Arts and Humanities Librarian is a key member of the Research, Teaching, and User Services division of The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS). This role is responsible for providing expert support to students, faculty, and staff in the Arts and Humanities disciplines, including Art, Art History, Art Conservation, and Media Studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teaching and Outreach
    • Develop collaborative relationships with Library staff, faculty, and students to support research, teaching, and learning in Arts and Humanities communities.
    • Gain a deep understanding of Arts and Humanities programs and classes to provide targeted and strategic outreach.
    • Provide research support by appointment to students and faculty in Arts and Humanities fields.
    • Develop and maintain disciplinary materials, including research guides, resource lists, and instructional content.
  • Collection Development and Discovery
    • Develop online, print, and multi-format collections that reflect the research, teaching, and learning needs of Claremont Colleges' Arts and Humanities communities.
    • Consult with disciplinary faculty to address content and format needs.
    • Manage endowed funds for general collection development.
  • Library and Professional Service
    • Participate in library-wide planning and assessment projects through service on committees and task forces.
    • Engage in professional development through local, regional, national, or international organizations.
Qualifications
  • A master's degree in library and information science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Undergraduate degree in an art-related field or comparable experience in an arts-related organization.
  • Strong commitment to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
  • Reading knowledge of a Romance language, preferably Spanish.
  • Passion for teaching undergraduate and graduate students and assessing student learning.
  • Understanding of digital literacy and scholarly communications.
  • Awareness of collection development trends in libraries.
  • Knowledge of current academic trends and issues in Arts and Humanities.
  • Familiarity with the evolving nature of scholarly communications in Arts and Humanities disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate work in a Fine Arts, Art History, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting Arts/Humanities subjects in an academic library.
  • Familiarity with specialized library software, applications, and platforms.
Work Schedule

The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours.
