About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Telecommunications Engineer to join our team at AtkinsRéalis. As a Telecommunications Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of telecommunications capital projects within our electric distribution and transmission business units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement telecommunications projects, including LAN/WAN projects, to support utility digitization and automation.
  • Support capital project design and owner's engineer scope of work, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Determine telecom criteria and requirements for capital and customer-funded projects, working closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Conduct project evaluation, feasibility, and planning reviews, identifying opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
  • Review and analyze contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
  • Monitor construction progress, ensuring timely completion and quality of work.
  • Verify compliance with specifications for equipment and materials, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
  • Perform engineering design and planning reviews, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze schedules and optimize project timelines, ensuring timely completion and minimizing delays.
  • Commission and verify equipment, ensuring proper functioning and compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct operational and maintenance reviews, identifying opportunities for process improvements and cost savings.
  • Perform cost-benefit analysis, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to customers, ensuring satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Collaborate with operations and OT departments to propose and execute changes and improvements to the AMI WAN and NAN, and other complex metering networks.
  • Plan and engineer telecom infrastructure, emphasizing resilient connectivity for smart metering and SCADA services.
  • Provide engineering functions and solutions to support telecom engineering for capital projects.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in telecommunications and engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, engineering, or computer science, with at least 5 years of experience preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification preferred.
  • Ability to obtain NERC CIP security clearance with associated background search.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of information and operations technology design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive solutions to complex problems or projects.
  • Solid technical background with experience in telecom WAN technologies, including networking, routing, DHCP, VPN technologies, and architecture.
  • Understanding of network tools, including SSH, traceroute, ping.
  • Knowledge of network security and firewall concepts, radio networks, and firmware updates.
  • Experience working with telco circuit providers, devices, and services.
  • Analytical, troubleshooting, and process improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) preferred.
  • Bucket truck experience below the power space preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate good communication skills, both written and oral, with team members, other departments, regulating authorities, and leadership.
  • Ability to maintain multiple tasks and manage expectations.
  • Demonstrated track record of building cross-functional relationships with key stakeholders and overseeing the resolution of complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other business analytical tools.
  • Knowledge of electric and/or gas utility operations preferred.
  • Previous work experience in IT, operational telecom, network, or systems engineering, or metering operations preferred.
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge in a working environment.
  • A valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • Ability to prioritize work and be a team member on multiple projects at one time.
  • Knowledge of safety policy and potential hazards of the electrical transmission network.
