Job Summary

PacifiCorp is seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist III to join our Transmission and Distribution team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support on complex projects related to wildfire mitigation, asset performance, and T&D Operations across six states. You will leverage large quantities of data to inform long-term risk analysis and aid in decision-making. Your expertise will be invaluable in developing tools and analysis to inform data-driven decisions. You will also develop presentations for senior management and recommend changes to meet company goals. Additionally, you will support long-term grid planning and load forecasting, and contribute to internal training for engineers and technicians in the subject area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct complex research studies and technical analyses to support company objectives and enable Transmission and Distribution Operations.
  • Support data science projects, processes, or systems over the life cycle of the project, including project identification, scope development, implementation, and long-term operations and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, dispatch, and regulatory teams to analyze complex problems, identify issues, innovate, and deliver solutions consistent with established schedules.
  • Provide technical expertise across the business in the area of data science to support functions such as wildfire mitigation and reliability within the T&D Operations organization.
  • Develop detailed computational analysis, including data science, computer modeling, and scripting and tool development, and integrate methods and products within and across company software products.
  • Participate in government, industry, collegiate, and other applicable associations or work groups that have the ability to influence or set policy impacting the future of our utility.
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Support data literacy and scripting knowledge development across the team.
  • Strong customer service focus.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Math, or Physics from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of five years' experience in a power/utility/energy industry or related professional experience.
  • Some experience in Python (or related language) and associated libraries for machine learning.
  • Knowledge of SQL query construction and optimization.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable way through visualizations.
  • Ability to review scientific literature and incorporate knowledge into ongoing projects.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and support multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated leadership and/or project management skills.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for data science and data governance.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
  • Professional Engineering license.
  • MS or PhD in quantitative fields.
  • Experience working in the utilities, risk management, or wildfire mitigation sector.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Azure Machine Learning environment.
  • Experience with C#, Spark, or R.
  • Experience with time series modeling and forecasting.
  • Understanding of the Company's business and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
