Job Summary:

A highly skilled Electrical Engineer is needed to lead and direct high voltage substation design projects for a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company in the Overland Park, KS area.

This role entails applying advanced engineering techniques, ensuring quality, and managing budgets while providing technical expertise and leadership within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain budgets and schedules for multiple substation design projects.
  • Perform high voltage substation (34.5kV-500kV) design, including physical design and protective relaying/control.
  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
  • Apply knowledge and comply with quality program.
  • Ensure compliance with the quality program through internal Quality Assurance reviews.
  • Support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects.
  • Perform complex research and make recommendations for equipment and material selection.
  • Oversee data collection, assimilation, and management for engineering work.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Manage budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Review lower level engineering work or assignments.
  • Lead larger production teams, coordinate multiple discipline activities, and serve as the responsible charge for a project.
  • Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects.
  • Participate in management, project scheduling, and work/resource planning meetings.
  • Interface directly with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Assist with identifying key client interests and drivers on moderately complex projects.
  • Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members.
  • Provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular practice area.
  • Implement resource management strategy.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 8 years' High Voltage Substation Design Experience.
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control of high voltage substation design projects.
  • Technical experience.
  • Research and recommendation development for equipment and materials selection.
  • Preparation of one-lines, connection diagrams, panel elevations, and protection & control schematics.
  • Preparation of auxiliary power equipment sizing calculations.
  • Design wiring diagrams for protective relaying panels.
  • Experience with complex engineering calculations/studies related to substation projects.
  • Creating RTU control, status and analog point lists, raceway/cable schedules, maintenance/signage, and nameplates.
  • Preparation of equipment arrangement, elevation drawings, grounding drawings, and conduit plans for high voltage substations.
  • Reviewing shop drawings, vendor quotes, and performing bid evaluations.
  • Developing construction release documents.
  • Specific experience with varying voltage classes, open air and/or GIS.
  • Experience with designing different types of bus configurations.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Minimum of 8 years of high voltage substation design work experience.
