Public Safety Officer

Join Advocate Health as a Public Safety Officer and contribute to the safety and well-being of our patients, visitors, and staff. As a key member of our security team, you will be responsible for ensuring a secure and respectful environment for everyone on our premises.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion in challenging situations, adhering to policies, procedures, and training.
- Conduct routine patrols to identify vulnerabilities, hazards, and fire conditions, and ensure compliance with safety and security rules and regulations.
- Respond to emergencies, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors, and team member incidents, and serve as a primary resource for de-escalation.
- Investigate incidents, complete timely and accurate reports, and address and escalate complaints to the appropriate leader.
- Liaise with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies, and coordinate, brief, and monitor law enforcement prisoner patient guards to ensure policy compliance.
- Assist in administrative duties, such as reviewing reports and records, inspecting uniforms and equipment, and maintaining training records.
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained within two years of appointment.
- A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicle.
- Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card issued by the Illinois State Police or Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice.
- Must meet State of IL Department of Financial and Professional Regulation licensing requirements and obtain a Firearm Control Card (FCC) for Proprietary Personnel within 90 days of hire.
- Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire and periodically thereafter.
- Must sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday, and lift up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
- Have 20/20 vision in both eyes or correctable to 20/20 with corrective lenses in both eyes.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
