Job Overview

Position Summary

The Transmission Technician will play a crucial role in the assembly and maintenance of high-performance racing gearboxes, ensuring optimal functionality and reliability for competitive racing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assemble and adjust components related to the racing vehicle, focusing on the gearbox assembly, which includes differentials, gearbox ratio clusters, gears, and associated parts.
  • Disassemble, clean, inspect, and conduct non-destructive testing on gearbox components to ensure quality and performance standards.
  • Maintain precise records of component changes and mileage, incorporating event details for post-event evaluations with team leadership.
  • Ensure secure attachment of all racing vehicle components, verifying safety and reliability.
  • Communicate effectively with crew chiefs, sub-assembly leaders, race engineers, and competition directors regarding work progress and any issues encountered.
  • Prepare and load all necessary tools, options, and spare parts onto transport vehicles for racing events.
  • Meet deadlines for vehicle preparation while maintaining high-quality standards in all tasks performed.
  • Safeguard and properly utilize all company property issued during employment, including uniforms, tools, electronic devices, and other equipment.
  • Travel with the team to races and testing events to ensure the racing vehicle is functioning optimally for on-track performance.
  • Assist with additional sub-assembly tasks, including uprights, driveshafts, brakes, and wheel guns.
  • Support race car maintenance and upkeep during events and testing sessions.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment at all times.
  • Represent the team and its sponsors professionally in all settings, both on and off the track.
  • Travel to racing and testing events as required.

Qualifications

  • Participation in a physical training program designed to enhance strength and endurance for competitive pit crew performance.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience as a mechanic or subassembly team member in IndyCar, Sports Car, or Formula 1 racing. Experience in other racing series may be considered.
  • Specific experience with Xtrac gearboxes and their components is essential.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with fundamental skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Proficiency in computer skills is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of racing vehicle mechanical components, electronics, and structural frameworks.
  • Certification in Magnaflux and Zyglo non-destructive testing is required unless already possessed by the candidate.
  • Ability to focus on detailed tasks for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
  • Hands-on experience with machinery such as lathes, mills, drill presses, and band saws.
  • Capability to operate hand tools effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. from ground level and maintain physical stamina to stand, bend, or stoop for long durations.
