Job Summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled CT Technologist to join our team in Boston, Massachusetts. As a CT Technologist, you will be responsible for operating CT equipment to acquire diagnostic images and information for use by physicians in diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate CT equipment to obtain diagnostic images and information according to departmental protocol.
  • Ensure patient preparation, positioning, immobilization, and use of protective shields as needed.
  • Select proper imaging factors and image designated portions of the body.
  • Explain exams to patients, considering physical and emotional needs, and maintain ethical standards.
  • Deliver patient care under scope of license/training.
  • Calibrate and verify equipment operation, notify personnel of malfunctions, and perform repairs.
  • Execute paperwork and Radiology Information System functions for each patient exam.
  • Perform venipuncture for contrast administration under radiologist direction, following hospital and departmental policies.
  • Attend staff meetings, in-services, and maintain CEUs as required by Massachusetts State Licensure and A.R.R.T.
  • May oversee and instruct personnel and technology students within the department.
  • Prepare equipment room and supplies for patient use, stock and supply room as needed.
  • Acknowledge and participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects.
  • Assume on-call coverage and remain flexible in shift coverage and overtime situations.
  • Rotate within department, divisions, and off-site clinics, cooperating with personnel and promoting harmony.
  • Transport and transfer patients using established procedures.
  • Use independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative under pressure in patient exams.
  • Perform point-of-care creatinine testing at applicable sites upon completion of training.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic technology, current Massachusetts State Radiologic Technologist license, and registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
  • Registered or pursuing eligibility for certification in CT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent.
  • At least one year of experience as a Radiologic technologist, preferably with cross-sectional anatomy courses.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, meeting and obtaining within one year of start of employment.

  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients under physical and emotional stress.
  • Analytical abilities to acquire and utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures, and cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Ability to adapt to changing pace within the department, with frequent interruptions.
  • Presents a positive attitude and professional appearance.
  • Physically capable of lifting, linen, supplies, patients, etc.
  • Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to Digital Imaging, Radiology Information System, and Hospital Information Systems.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the department team.
  • Aware of hazards within the department and adhere to safety standards established by BWH and regulatory agencies.
  • Able to work in changing environments, reduced lighting, increased noise, temperature variances, unpleasant odors, etc.
  • Communication skills to resolve conflicts and relay information concisely to staff, patients, and other hospital personnel.
Working Conditions

Duties include patient care responsibilities with subsequent exposure to human waste and similar unpleasant elements. Failure to follow established procedures and safety practices could result in exposure to radioactivity. Subject to frequent stressful situations. Lifting and transferring patients from table to stretcher. Periodic exposure to noise and cold environment plus poor lighting.
